From the Pastor's Perspective
by Judi Chow

Lots of my friends are pastors, but I don't remember ever attending a pastor's ordination. Don't get me wrong, I was invited many times but somehow due to different reasons just couldn't make it. Therefore, I am not able to compare it with a missionary's commissioning service. If you are interested in reading my comparison on commissioning services and weddings click this link http://ccminternational.org/English/insights/commissioning%20and%20wedding.htm

Recently, a friend spoke at a pastor's ordination, and I heard some very good comments across the globe. His charge was to the congregation, but I found it to be beneficial for missionaries and those who send, supervise, and support them as well. With his permission, I am sharing it here with you.  Maybe you can see some similarities between a pastor of a church and a missionary on a field.

A Pastor's Ordination - A charge to the congregation by Rev. Wally Yew
Two things you should RESPECT

1.         His calling - It is God who has called him.
Respect God’s choice!

2.         His family - They have decided to live their lives together.
Respect their choice!

Two things you should APPRECIATE

3.         His personality - Thank God for who he is and leave to God as to whom you wish him to be.

4.         His gifts - Thank God for what he has; his gifts are God’s gifts to him.
Be thankful

Two things you should UNDERSTAND

5.         His needs

a)         To read God’s word

b)        To talk with his wife

c)        To play with his children

d)        To care for his plumbing

6.         His ministries

a)         How does he understand his role?

b)        What does he hope to do?

c)        How does he hope to accomplish his objectives?

Two things you should PROTECT

7.         His time

a)         He has more things to do than you can imagine.

b)        He needs more time than you think to do what he has to do.

c)        Do call him when you really need him.

8.        His reputation

a)         Don’t repeat rumors about him.

b)        Don’t listen to gossip about him.

c)        Do clarify the “facts” with him.

d)        Do pray for him against the attacks from people both visible and invisible.
